I guess you can say I’m a self-taught artist.  My interest in art dates back to my childhood.

Taking drives with my parents, I was always intrigued with the passing landscapes: fields, forests, streams and barns.  I was fascinated with the beauty of nature: vibrant colors, forms, patterns, play of light.  Did some drawing and painting, but nothing serious.

Since my retirement from teaching of Biology and Human Anatomy,  I’ve become more serious dabbing with acrylics, pastels, watercolors and photography.  I strive to find my own style of expression. My work is still evolving.

Some of my best friends are noted artists. They give me helpful hints and I build on them.

They encouraged me to join art associations. So far I’ve joined Warren County Arts and Arts Bridge. They encouraged me to enter shows for exposure.  Its fun just to enter (without being rejected) and more exhilarating to win awards..

Photography is an expression of art.  I’m always moved by a scene and  seize the moment to “mind frame”  a space and movement of varied shapes, patterns and play of light.  I travel with my camera.  Originally I took pictures and used them as a model for my paintings.

Some of my photos are digitally enhanced using the endless techniques of  Photoshop which utilizes layers  accompanied by filters(watercolor, pastels, film grain, etc),  color arrangements(hues, brightness, contrast, etc.).  The effects are infinite.

Also  I’ve been digitally drawing pictures from scratch using various brushes just with the movement of the computer mouse. The best thing is no tubes of paint, odors or water spills. My cat Rufus won’t be able to put his paw prints of color on the walls.
